    Improper Shifting

    • The automatic transmission 1996 Geo Prizm may fail to shift properly at mileages between 125,000 and 150,000. This problem results from a defective shift solenoid or a misaligned throttle position sensor. Inspect the shift solenoid for signs of wear or damage and make any necessary adjustments to the throttle position sensor.

    Fluid Leaks

    • The 1996 Geo Prizm can leak transmission fluid from broken seals in the slave cylinder or hose, resulting in the clutch not releasing. Check the slave cylinder for worn or broken seals, inspect for any leaking hoses and make the necessary replacements.

    Clunking Noise When Shifting
